If you apply for loans through FASFA then you will not need a co-signer. The only loans that are based on credit are Grad-plus loans (extra $$ for grad school besides federal loans) or for parent-plus loans.

You just need to fill out the FASFA forms on line.

You do not need a cosigner or have to pass a credit check when you apply for fin aid through www.fafsa.ed.gov. Depending on your age, you will probably still have to report your parents income, but this doesn't mean he is cosigning for you. Here is a good book about fin aid.

Any chance you could get a job to help pay for school?

If you don't qualify for a FAFSA loan, I'd be really surprised if you can find a lender who'd give money to someone with no credit history, no co-signer, and presumably no collateral. If you find something, the interest rate will be absolutely outrageous, and you'll be screwed when you go to repay it.

If you need the loan to pay tuition and/or books, take out the absolute minimum amount you need. If you need the loan for booking your spring break plans, you should seriously rethink it.

Federal loans you dont need a cosigner...now the problem comes in if your federal loans dont cover all your education expenses...you then a private loan...unfortunately private loans are approved off of creditworthy borrowers or cosigners...they're not good anyway...extrememly hight interest rates...however if this is a last option for you...then just talk to your dad...explain to him this is for your education to better yourself...he'll understand.
