Are student loans and grants available to those who choose to get a degree online? I am in a situation in which I cannot go to a campus, I have a seven month old son and a husband who works full time. I would like to get my degree online, but are there ways to get grants and loans even though I am not physically going to a college/university?

I'm not sure, but my guess would be it would at least have to be an accredited university/college.

Yes, online colleges can and do accept loans and grants for education. Florida Metropolitan University and University of Phoenix both are accredited for loan / grant purposes.

Most grants/ loans are only available for federally 閳ユccredited閳?universities- which means people inspect the school and the students to make sure that people are actually all learning more or less the same thing at the same level. Most online schools do not fit that criteria, and that's why people don't respect online degrees, they don閳ユ獩 have standards. But they also tend to offer FA help on their websites - so that should be your first stop. Look, if the Government thinks it閳ユ獨 too fakey to invest their money, then that should let you know it閳ユ獨 probably not worth you spending your time or money on either.

Please investigate seriously. Many of the online schools are NOT accredited meaning your credits won't transfer and the degree will be worthless. The schools are also expensive. A much better option is to apply to a regular brick and mortar community college or state school and take their virtual classes offered. The credits will be real credits and the cost will be reasonable. All the regular grants and loans available to a student would be available to you and it would be a %26quot;real%26quot; school. University of Phoenix is a crap school that goes in and out of accreditation. It isn't a degree respected by employers. Go to a CC or state school and get a degree that people recognize--no one will know you took the bulk of your classes online. Also-- having a child is an excuse--you could go to school if you wanted to, a lot of people do every day.

i would try to avoid loans if at all possible. also, there are a ton of grants/scholarships for single mommys too :)

try to aim for grants/scholarships more... they are not to be paid back. its confusing sometimes, but just keep applying. Scholarships usually have a 1 or 2 page application, and require an essay. Take your time with the essay, so yours stands out.

every big (and small) company you see (manufacturer, orgs, corps and groups also) all have grants and scholarships they hand out like candy. Walmart, Kmart, Target, Coke, computer companies etc etc etc

heres a link with a HUGE amount of some available. some you will need to copy and paste into a new window. also, fastweb (take the time to fill it in) will search databases and get back to you with a list of scholarships you qualify for.

Also contact all mens, womens associations in your state, they almost always have grants %26amp; scholarships. What ever field you are going into, contact the orgs, associations etc for them; Also check with professional organizations related to your career interests, such as the American Bar Association or the American Medical Association. they also always have scholarships. Research and dig, call then write. Its all worth it.

OVER apply; it doesnt hurt to have too many, and the extra funds can help with housing.
