I was in prison for 10 yrs. My student loan went from 17,000 to 37.000 in int & penalty. How 2 g

Is there any way to get the interest and penalty waived? And if so, how do I do it and who do I contact. An ombudsman told me there was no provision for this, but due to extenuating circumstances I beleive there is a way; I just don't know how.

If you don't make payments the lender has the right to charge you interest and penalties. It doesn't matter what circumstances are. Contact them and start making payments ASAP so it doesn't go higher. Jail isn't an excuse to not to pay your debts.
