Student loans, living expenses and a 10 month program.?

I talked to my financial aid admissions counselor, and they told me that there would be no financial aid for living expenses for their 10 month hands on training program. I have 2 kids, and a full time job, but must quit my job to do full time classes from 8:30-5, 2 days a week. Can you still apply for student loans and get some help with living expenses? I know Fafsa will only cover my schooling, and I will go to the school to talk more on Monday about all of this, but I wanted to know if there are student loans you can pay back to help with living expenses..I will be getting a part time job as well, but that won't help pay all of my bills..thanks!!

You could try a private school loan. The interest rates will be higher but it sounds like this may be your only option. If you don't have credit (or have bad credit) you will need a cosigner.

apply for stafford loans. the college financial office will help you with this. they are loans, but you don't have to start payments until after you graduate. also, the interest doesn't start accruing until after graduation. i don't know for sure that you are eligible, but what is worth that can happen, they say no?

Yes you can. There are alternative loans thru most major banks. The Top 2 places to get an alternative loan would be Bank of America or Salliemae. I would recommend salliemae if you don't have good credit. I'm an admissions advisor at a University and had a student who was denied by Citibank and Chase and she was able to obtain a loan thru salliemae for 5,000 dollars for living expenses. Go to salliemae.com or call them directly at 800-749-9100 and they'll pre approve you right over the phone.Keep in mind that with any private loan they will want you to have a job for them to assure that you can pay it back regardless if it's a part time job or not.

There are two sources for student loans -- the federal government and private lenders. In order to obtain most federal student loans, you will first need to file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). In most%26lt;!--instances the FAFSA is required for all federal financial aid including federal student loans. Deferment options are available while you are still attending school at least half-time. There are four main federal loan programs.

Federal loan consolidation is for students who are in repayment status or parents who wish to extend the repayment period on their current PLUS and obtain a fixed interest rate for the life of the loan--%26gt;you can combine all of your eligible federal student loans into one loan with a Federal Consolidation Loan. Consolidating also locks the interest rate you pay on your loan.
