I completed my A.A at a JUCO. then moved on to the 4-year University, completed one year, (for which I recieved a student loan -federal loan) then for personal reason had to withdraw. I haven't repaid my student loan but I want to complete my degree. Can I use my credits from my A.A. and apply them toward my degree, or do I have to pay off the loan 1st. I'm going in a different field completely and the year I took at the University has not relation to it, so I don't need that transcript (which I know I can't get until I pay the balance). I'm also going to a different school because I've moved. I would be paying for school out of pocket this time, of course, I just can't affort to pay the loan and school at the same time. Can someone tell me if this is possible, or do I have to pay back the loan first?
Do you have to pay back student loans before going back to school?
You don't pay federal student loans back as long as you're listed as a full time student in the eyes of most financial institutions, and not in default at another school. However, if you got the loan from the school, then you have to pay the school b/c that's still a balance on your account. If you want that transcript to be used, you have to pay that balance b/c that school is definitely not going to give u a transcript if you owe them money. One way to possibly get around that is see if the new school would allow you to use an unofficial transcript or a course history from the school you graduated from...hope this helps b/c Im in a similar situation now...

I would suggest talking to the bank/financial institution you got the loan from. However it is my understanding that you do not have to pay back loans until 6 months after graduation or drop below 1/2 at your institution. If you have already began repaying your loans you may be able to talk to the company about holding your payments until after you graduate. Good luck.

Check with the financial aid office at the school you wish to attend and apply for FAFSA. Because you withdrew, you may just have to comeplete enough credits to bring your level of completed credits to an %26quot;acceptable%26quot; level. Once you enroll in school at least half-time, you may also qualify for a deferrment on your federal student loan

Check with the financial aid office where you took the loan out or the source of the loan. Most of the time they give you a six month deferment period after you stop attending. As long as you are in school half-time (at least in NY) you do not have to start paying back the loan until you finish. I hope it helps you. Good luck.

No you do not have to pay back the loan while in school, make sure the lender knows you are in school. Call them and make sure that you are %26quot;in school status%26quot;
