Student Loans??

My son will be Graduating from High School next year and I would like to know what student loans are the best ones to get and why..... When I went to College I received a Standford loan and my parents paid for the rest. However, I am a single parent and I'm not able to do that. Being this is my first born to make me proud I am clueless to which way to lead him. Any help will be great. Thanks...

Student Loans??

I use to sites for all my loan info I find them very helpful and hopefully they can help you out.

Student Loans??

he has to apply for fafsa, they will calculate what federal loans he is eligible for. these loans include stafford subsidized and unsubsidized usually he can borrow on average $5000, then there is perkins loan around $5000, finally you can get parentplus loans if you do not get enough federal aid.

Student Loans??

Federal loans are the best. They have the best interest rates and terms and sometimes the government will pay the interst while hes in college. It would be better if he didn't have to take out loans...or delay taking them out as late as possible. Most kids drop out or quit within thier first two years so I would recomment he at least wait that long.. to know he's serious and will actually graduate. Don't make some parents mistake and pay 2 years of expensive private college only to have the kid drop out to get married... unless that is the intent in the first place... hey... wait a minute!. :-)

Good Luck.

Student Loans??

Student Loan can be sought through many different avenues. It all depends on your personal credit rating. The biggest challenge is finding one that offers the lowest interest rate. There are various routes to explore when seeking out a bad credit student loan and I would suggest that your first port of call would be the school for which you are about to attend. You will need to fill out a FAFSA form in order to initially apply for a federal loan. Perkins loans are combined school and government funds. A combination loan may be another alternative way of acquiring a bad credit student loan. This type of student loan enables you to consolidate%26lt;!--any existing loans that you have whilst applying for a new tuition loan. The only drawback to this type of loan is that you may need someone to co-sign.Another way to get a bad credit student loan is to get a co-signer. Maybe a family member with good credit would help. This way you could get loans with more attractive interest rates and terms, in spite of your bad credit. You may find the student loan here,

http://best-loans.awardspace.com/student...

Finally, if all else fails you will need to contact banks and financial institutions. They will more than likely be happy to lend you the money, but it will be on a higher interest rate than usual. When you have bad credit the banks will check out your personal credit score first and then offer terms based on the credit rating assessment. Take heart, even if your bad credit student loan is set at a high interest rate, numerous--%26gt;student loans defer your payment until you have finished college. This in turn will allow you time to improve your credit rating and when you leave college you could then look into consolidating your bad credit student loan at a better interest rate. This will mean your monthly payments will be at a lower level and therefore more affordable.

Paying back student loans....?

I have 2 more years to go before having to pay back my student loans but i am a little concerned. I have a friend that is currently paying 800/month. I didnt know that they give you a certain amount to pay back. I was led to believe that at the time to pay loans, you can pay the amount you want!

Is this wrong? Is anyone paying loans now, and can you give me some tips and advice?

Thanks!!

Paying back student loans....?

800$ a month is a bit high, but that may mean that they are on a shorter payback plan or just took out a heck of a lot of cash. If you're curious as to how much you owe now and quite possibly what you'll owe later, you can go to the finance department at your school and I'm sure they'll help you out.

Some ideas for the future;

1. If you can, start putting money away now.

2. As soon as you graduate, consolidate your loans. This will save you a lot of money in the long run with interest. Also, currently congress is trying to pass legislation to lessen the interest rate for college loans. Write your congressperson and let them know you support this.

3. Also, when you're consolidating your loans, set up the payment plan that's best for you. If you want to pay it back over ten years or five.

You wont have to start paying them back until 6 months after graduation, but it never hurts to start before then if they'll let you. Also, if you choose to pay more each month in order to knock the loan out sooner, just remember that most don't let you pay over straight to principle. They'll actually charge interest for whatever extra you give, which might actually mean you end up paying quite a bit more for your loans.

When I graduated I owed about $26,000 and after consolidating with a 10 year plan I pay about $160 every month, if that gives you an idea of what you might owe each month.

Hope that helps!

Paying back student loans....?

Hard to answer without knowing what kind of student loans you have from what lender (and in what country?) But if you are talking about US student loans, they typically come with a payment schedule, meaning they'll tell you what you have to pay each month. To complicate things further, if you have private student loans, the interest rate is probably variable, meaning the amount you pay monthly could change.

Best thing to do is look at the paperwork (called a Mastor Promissory Note or MPN) of your current student loans and read them carefully.

If you know how much you owe approximately, you can go to our website and click on the loan calculator, put in your loans and your repayment period and you can see where you are at.

A question about private student loans and interest?

im a transfer student at a state school whos living off campus. it looks like i have 3 semesters to go, and so far ive only taken out a $4500 federal loan, i wont even be using all of it this semester (it should cover most of this semester and the next). the problem is, i cant use it for off campus living. because of unexpected expenses, im having a hard time getting my rent for next month, still have to pay my security deposit, some bs fees on campus that add up to a couple hundred bucks, etc. i'm thinking about taking out a private loan of about $1500 to make sure im covered (i wouldnt use all of it now, thats usually the minimum student loan). my question is this: i know that private loans have high interest, but if i were to pay it off sometime this coming summer instead of waiting until after i graduate, would i still have to pay for interest?

A question about private student loans and interest?

Yes. The interest on private student loans starts accumulating immediately so you'd still be paying interest. Also be sure the loan doesn't have a prepayment penalty and check their %26quot;fees%26quot;. you have to pay a certain percentage of the loan for destination fees or something. usually those kill you in a loan that small. Also be aware you'd have to pass a credit check and if you can't you'd have to get a cosigner.

Student, 17 getting a car loan from buyer? need some help?

Well guys, im 17 and saved up currently 1.5k for a new car. My car currently died and i have a stable job, 15/hr working 30hr/s a week. [been having that job for 6 months].

I want to invest in this car

http://sfbay.craigslist.org/pen/car/3386...

but I want to talk to the guy about paying him like 600 a month for the car, for two years, putting the 1.5 down on it,

i just want a way that we can both be secure in the transaction.

Like some kind of contract that I can have him sign or something.

whats a good idea?

Student, 17 getting a car loan from buyer? need some help?

Unlikely. Typically a contract signed by a minor is not enforceable. If you choose not to pay after a few payments he has no legal recourse and with you being so young is unlikely to get anything if he was to sue you. You will have a tough time putting him as a lien holder on the title and the payee on the insurance.

Sorry to rain on your parade. There is far too much risk for the seller in this case. Try a relative.

Student, 17 getting a car loan from buyer? need some help?

It's a good idea in theory, but it's not gonna happen. You are 17, still in school(I take it), no credit built or even started. You have only been employed six months, part time hours, at best. You have a very small down payment, and would be required to carry full coverage insurance, as the seller would drop down to the legal owner area, and would require it. Those costs would be in addition to your loan amount, and would not be included in your loan amount. Then there is the fact that, you must be 18 or older to sign a contract, unless you are an emancipated minor, and can prove so. Even if you turn 18 soon, you still have all the above problems, stopping you from proceeding with your dream. Yes, dream, you can't possibly be serious!

Student, 17 getting a car loan from buyer? need some help?

CHECK IT OUT LG, YOU'RE 17 SO THAT AUTOMATICALLY MEANS THAT THEY ARE GOING TO TRY AND PLAY WITH YOU. MY SUGGESTION IS THAT YOU DONT GO IN THERE BY YOURSELF. HAVE A PARENT OR REALLY GOOD FRIEND(OLDER)GO WITH YOU. SOMEONE THAT KNOWS HOW TO TALK TO PPL. THE DEALERS GONE TO NEED INSURANCE VERIFACTION, A D.L, AND IM QUITE SURE A CO-SIGHNER. WHEN YOU TALK TO THEM STAY CALM AND COLLECTIVE AND THE DEAL SHOULD GO THROUGH.

Student, 17 getting a car loan from buyer? need some help?

First of all, are you sure you want this car?

I had a BMW years ago that I bought with 90,000 miles on it and as soon as it hit 115,000 it had so so so many problems, including the transmission blowing. Should anything happen to the car that it need to be fixed, be prepared to shell out at least $1,000 each time. If you're able to do that and willing to realize that this car depreciates in value quickly, especially know that it is 11 years old, then go ahead. Not to mention that guy is asking a bit much for that vechicle, but anyway...

If he agrees to your financing situation you can easily just have him (or your parents) type up a contract stating the terms of the loan, etc. Then both of you will sign the contract and keep it for the agreed upon term of the loan to refer back to should the need arise.

Student, 17 getting a car loan from buyer? need some help?

Keep in mind at age 17, you cannot legally enter into a contract, so if the other guy is smart, you will need someone to co-sign any type on loan. If he does this with you by yourself, and you then wreck the car, you can actually go back and ask for you money since you weren't old enough. Unfortunately I didn't learn that until after I turned 18.

Student loans without a co-signer?? Help!!?

I am trying to get a student loan with a co-signer. I was able to get one for summer term by myself but now I am not able to. My parents have horrible credit and I do not know anyone who could co-sign for me that has good credit. Are there anywhere or any sites that look at GPA or where I could get a loan by myself? Help!

Student loans without a co-signer?? Help!!?

I don't know if there are any places where they'll lend students money basically on their own recogniscence. I mean, just ask yourself if you would trust a total stranger, especially a student, who was probably not going to be able to promise to pay you back for some time into the future anyway. I know I wouldn't.

I know it has to be a tough problem, especially for those people who are honest and would never dream of welching on a debt of honor. But unfortuntely many students duck out of their obligation and leave their co-signatur stuck with the repayment, and the person who is lending the money in the first place is only really interested in one thing. HE doesn't want to be the one who gets shafted. I do wish you luck though.

Student loans without a co-signer?? Help!!?

For the federal loan there are both subsidized and unsubsidized loans...and you can defer both until after graduation or less than full time etc...go to your financial aid office because they will have the most information and point you in the right direction.

I've always tried to get a loan from Sallie Mae but they wanted me to have a cosigner...and like you, my mom as horrible credit and I don't have anyone I can ask.

Good luck and talk to financial aid!

Student loans without a co-signer?? Help!!?

you can go to sallie mae, but i warn you, you will hate them with a passion, so make them your absolute last resort

Student loans? Am I still in default?

I've consolidated my student loans and begun repayment---am I still in default or can I re-apply for student aid again from FAFSA to get money to go to school again? I just want to make sure before I apply to a college.

Student loans? Am I still in default?

Chances are, consolidating probably took care of your loan default. That said, we on this website can only speculate as to whether you are out of default. To be absolutely certain, you should look up your personal student record on the National Student Loan Data System, www.nslds.ed.gov.

The NSLDS website (which you will need your Dept. of Ed. PIN to access) will give you information about any federal student loan that you have borrowed to date. On the site, you will be able to see each loan, the amount owed, and the repayment status of the loan. If the loan says, %26quot;in repayment,%26quot; you're fine. If NSLDS says %26quot;defaulted%26quot; (even if your lender says otherwise), you won't be eligible for FSA funds.

If your lender confirms that your loan is in good standing but NSLDS doesn't reflect this, ask the lender to update NSLDS and monitor your record until you know that they did.

Student loans? Am I still in default?

Yes, if it says you're in forbearance, you can still get Fin Aid (new loans, etc.) Report It

Student loans? Am I still in default?

Just because you have began making payments on your student loans does not mean you are out of default. You need to verify with whomever is consolidating your loans to determine how many payments need to be made before you are no longer in default status. Once that number of payments have been made, then apply for student aid through FAFSA. You are not able to receive funds from the federal government if you are in default.

Student loans? Am I still in default?

If you are in default of any loans (e.g., not paying and not contacting them regarding it) then that will jeopardize your eligibility for certain loans. You can still receive aid, but usually loans like Perkins or the likes will require a lot of explaining on your part as to your delinquency.

Good luck, hope you get into college again :)
