Do you have to pay back student loans before going back to school?

I completed my A.A at a JUCO. then moved on to the 4-year University, completed one year, (for which I recieved a student loan -federal loan) then for personal reason had to withdraw. I haven't repaid my student loan but I want to complete my degree. Can I use my credits from my A.A. and apply them toward my degree, or do I have to pay off the loan 1st. I'm going in a different field completely and the year I took at the University has not relation to it, so I don't need that transcript (which I know I can't get until I pay the balance). I'm also going to a different school because I've moved. I would be paying for school out of pocket this time, of course, I just can't affort to pay the loan and school at the same time. Can someone tell me if this is possible, or do I have to pay back the loan first?

Do you have to pay back student loans before going back to school?

You don't pay federal student loans back as long as you're listed as a full time student in the eyes of most financial institutions, and not in default at another school. However, if you got the loan from the school, then you have to pay the school b/c that's still a balance on your account. If you want that transcript to be used, you have to pay that balance b/c that school is definitely not going to give u a transcript if you owe them money. One way to possibly get around that is see if the new school would allow you to use an unofficial transcript or a course history from the school you graduated from...hope this helps b/c Im in a similar situation now...

Do you have to pay back student loans before going back to school?

usually you have to pay after being done from school for 3 to 6 months so say you where out of school for summer and you thought you were done then you decide to go back the loan will not be due till 3 to 6 months after that term, you can keep extending

Do you have to pay back student loans before going back to school?

I would suggest talking to the bank/financial institution you got the loan from. However it is my understanding that you do not have to pay back loans until 6 months after graduation or drop below 1/2 at your institution. If you have already began repaying your loans you may be able to talk to the company about holding your payments until after you graduate. Good luck.

Check with the financial aid office at the school you wish to attend and apply for FAFSA. Because you withdrew, you may just have to comeplete enough credits to bring your level of completed credits to an %26quot;acceptable%26quot; level. Once you enroll in school at least half-time, you may also qualify for a deferrment on your federal student loan

Do you have to pay back student loans before going back to school?

Check with the financial aid office where you took the loan out or the source of the loan. Most of the time they give you a six month deferment period after you stop attending. As long as you are in school half-time (at least in NY) you do not have to start paying back the loan until you finish. I hope it helps you. Good luck.

Do you have to pay back student loans before going back to school?

No you do not have to pay back the loan while in school, make sure the lender knows you are in school. Call them and make sure that you are %26quot;in school status%26quot;

Financial Aid and Student Loans?

I received a student loan through my college as well as receiving financial aid. Can I try to get additional student loans and if so, what are some good lenders to use.

Financial Aid and Student Loans?

Sounds like you may want to try a private student loan.

The best thing to do is compare the different private lenders out there, which can be done at http://www.finaid.org/loans/privatestude...

Most of the rates are very similar but do a little research and pick one that you think is best. I would suggest Think Financial. The application process is very quick and easy, and the check is sent directly to you so you can use the money for whatever you want. The limits are much higher with private student loans, up to $40,000 per year. You can find out more information about a Think loan at http://www.thinkfinancial.com . Good Luck.

Financial Aid and Student Loans?

yes , if necessary . you might need a cosigner ( ie your parents ) , and try a bank , Chase is pretty good

Co-Signing Student Loans?

I don't have the option of going to my parents or relatives to co-sign a private student loan, seperate from the federal loan. Is there a place I can go online to find a co-signer? I don't have enough credit built up and I need alot more money than just a federal loan since I have to pay out of state tuition and housing. There is nowhere online that will approve me without a co-signer because of my limited credit and since I'm taking out $15,000. What are my options?

Co-Signing Student Loans?

I'd go to a cheaper school. One you don't have to take out private loans to cover all the costs. Most in-state schools can be completely covered by the federal loan maximums if you do both subsidized and unsubsidized loans. Here is a good publication with the loan maximum amounts.

Co-Signing Student Loans?

Without a co-signer, there are few loan options open to you. I would suggest going to your financial aid office and talking to someone there. Hopefully they will have ideas about scholarships and grants that you may be eligible for. Whatever you do, don't pay money to get a loan somewhere online and check the loan offers you get for interest rates. Student loans are capped at a certain percentage and the payments go into deferment while you are in school. Other loans don't have these protections. Good luck to you!

Co-Signing Student Loans?

Did you fill out a FAFSA? You might qualify for money that doesn't require a cosigner. Talk to the financial aid officer at your school. There are a lot of options for financial aid like grants and scholarships (which you don't need to pay back). You can research those options at public libraries or even through your financial aid office - there is a lot of 'free' money out there if you look. As far as co-signers, I don't imagine someone would co-sign who doesn't know you because if you default they will be held responsible for your loan. Ask at your school FA office for options.

Is there such loan that will consolidate my students loans, plus gives extra as a cash advance?

I owe around $20,000 dollars in student loans right now. I am wondering if there is any type of loan that offers to consolidate my current student loans, plus give extra on top of that? In other words i am looking for the original $20,000 plus an additional $14,000 (to cover miscillaneous expenses when moving out.) I plan to work full time after i graduate. but i do not have a full time job right now. Any advice would help.. thank you.

Is there such loan that will consolidate my students loans, plus gives extra as a cash advance?

When I was in college, student loans didn't start accruing interest until after graduation and you got 10 years to pay them off. Plus you didn't have to make payments until 6 months after you graduated. Since then some of the tax laws have changed. I think your best approach is to talk to an accountant. $34K is a lot of money to be on the hook for and I doubt you can get 10 years to pay that back unless it is secured by an asset like a house. And if you do have a house you're going to need enough equity to cash out.

The fact you are still in school (and I assume unemployed) makes getting a loan very, very difficult.

Debt is a *****. Take what you have, look at your income, look at what your payments are/will be and see if you can fit it all into a monthly budget so you don't default and can still have cash flow at the end of the month. Make the budget fit your income and not the other way around.

But to your other comment... $14K to cover moving expenses? HAHAHAHA! I don't think so.

Go see a financial professional and remember cash is king.

Where can I find debt consolidation for "private" student loans?

I am a young professional that is over my head in private student loan debt and credit card debt. I have found several companies willing to help me with my credit card debt but no luck with the private student loan debt because it is not considered %26quot;secured%26quot; debt. My interest rates on these loans are over 20% making my monthly payments total $700. Because I have credit problems in the past I am considered a %26quot;high risk%26quot; thus unable to get the banks to reduce my interest rate.

Does anyone know of an agency that is willing to help people with %26quot;private%26quot; student loan debt? I am looking for some type of debt consolidation that would reduce my interest rate and lower my monthly payment. Please keep in mind these are private student loans not government loans. Thanks in advance!

Where can I find debt consolidation for %26quot;private%26quot; student loans?

Credit card debt is not secured debt either. I don't know what difference it makes.

You are paying for your past bad behavior. You can keep shopping around and see if you can find a lender who's willing to let you borrow at less than 20%.

You might have to struggle for a few years on a very tight budget until you get matters under control. Congress expanded the types of student debt that cannot be discharged in bankruptcy. I don't know if yours falls into that category, but it is getting very difficult to walk away from student debt.
